2016 Women in Review. How did they Fare? Let me Count the Ways …

Remember your Mom telling you to watch out for strangers and bad men? Well, they come in all shapes and sizes.  Some even wolves in sheep's clothing.  Others arrogant, insincere, superficial, thoughtless and brain dead.  Then there's the hateful, disrespectful, vulgar, sexist, disgusting ones. And lets not forget the violent, psycho, looney, misogynist thugs ...  So how did women fare in 2016?

With sexism, inequality, hypocrisy, injustice, misogyny, hate, sexual harassment, violence, rape and murder, not very well.  Let me count the ways ... all 15 of them.

From the Sun's rating women's breasts on their "Titsee Index", to the Silicon Valley Executive who punched and kicked his girlfriend 117 times & was charged with 47 felony charges, to Moroccan State TV promoting using makeup to cover up domestic abuse, I'm sure you will find something here that says 2016 was not a very good year for women.

This is a fairly long post consisting of over 11,300 words. My goal was to be complete, so I chose what I believed to be the most significant instances of women not being treated the way that they should have been in 2016.

If I missed any, it was due to oversight.  You are more then welcome to add them in the comment section at the end of this post.

It will take about a good 45 minutes to read this post.  I suggest you skim through it first and pick the sections that peak your interest the most. Then come back to the other ones later.  You may even need more than one sitting as there's a lot here to take in.

The following 15 cases are reasons enough why men need to grow up and be more kind, considerate, thoughtful, caring and have more respect for women.

1. The Sun Rating Actresses Breasts with "The Titsee Index"!

bizzare at the OSCARS!                              LOWDOWN ON THOSE DRESSES!                          TAKING THE PLUNGE!

This is how the London’s The Sun newspaper chose to market and promote their March 2016 edition, self styled, nudie magazine like, full double page centerfold spread.

They were deservedly so, lambasted and dragged over the coals for rating actresses’ breasts from Sunday's Red Carpet at The Oscars.

Now you have to wonder.  Is this really any different from every week them propping up a new pair of delectable, firm, ripe, squeezable pair of titties on page three ... for pubescent, teen like, horny, sex crazed men to get their blood rushing, express their admiration and ogle at?

Actresses’ just like actors attended the event to celebrate their professional achievements in their craft, not to have their boobs drooled over and the amount of cleavage scrutinized and rated on a so called, self-proclaimed, lame, tasteless, stock market like “Titsee Index.”

It's well known that the The Sun has a historic hard on for titties, jugs, boobs and knockers on page 3 – there's absolutely no getting away from it.  Tits are just a part of their brand and they have turned them into two bouncing, jiggling symbols of press freedom.

Would you expect anything less from the Sun than when they took page 3 away ... and then brought it back the very next day.  They laughed right in peoples faces, as some got really, really angry about this – especially after their well publicized No More Page 3 campaign.

But does this really mean that in 2016 a leading edge, mass, mainstream publication should be able to get away with degrading women and blatantly reducing them down to the sum of just two parts?

Their Titsee Index was the brain child of neanderthal Showbiz correspondent, Dan Wootton.  It consisted of a full double-page centre fold spread featuring seven leading women from The Oscars Red Carpet.

In this version the highly volatile Titsee Index ‘plunges’ along with these women’s plunging necklines, until it finally reaches Charlize Theron, who despite not winning an Oscar can sleep well and rest easy because she did nab a 10/10 rating for her hooters out on the red carpet.

The Sun's Titsee Index Centerfold Spread

The Sun's Titsee Index Centerfold Spread, Brie Larson and Cate Blanchette.

Here is how Wootton and the Sun consciously chose to degrade and humiliate the women on a scale of one to ten:

  • Brie Larson who won a Best Actress Oscar scored the lowest and only got a 4 on 10 because her mammaries were quite ashamedly covered up in blue. The reasoning is because they can’t be seen, they obviously must be inferior ...
  • Cate Blanchett who is a former Oscar-winner was adorned in light green and was one notch higher with a deeply disappointing 5 on10.  Maybe this had something to do with her age?
  • Saoirse Ronan in black nominated for her first Oscar at 13 and nominated again this year received barely a passing grade of 6 on 10.
  • Margot Robbie “in a shimmering, sequinned Tom Ford ensemble” came out ahead at a hum drum, average 7 on 10.
  • Charlotte Riley’s black laced top and who’s “cleavage stole the show” which doesn’t even really mean anything ... well she got a respectable 8 on 10.
  • Olivia Wilde in a white flowing gown showing exceptional cleavage was a near perfect 9 on 10 and ...
  • ... Charlize Theron dressed in hot red, was voted the Grand Booby prize with an outstanding 10 on 10 for “the Oscar for the lowest neckline”!  She can sleep easy now being at the top or should it be the bottom of The Titsee Index ... but only till next year's Oscars.

Twitter was mad with fury and disgust by both sexes:

This is not okay people! RT @EverydaySexism: This is 2016.

so a titsee-index is fine, but breastfeeding is gross and should not be done in public. okay then. >:(...

Absolutely disgusted by the 'Titsee Index' by Dan Wootton. Body shaming & rating actors based on their breast size is despicable.

@SuperheroFeed @TheSun The Sun is cancer to the world, digusting paper

The Titsee Index. Christ almighty.

Who over at @TheSun went to college and got a degree to rate women's breasts? This is embarrassing.

There is a "titsee index" in the sun, rating women's necklines out of 10 at and I want to be sick. How is that normal? So creepy!

"the titsee index" for real? did a twelve year old pubescent child write this?...

How is this still happening in 2016? Get in the real world and try reporting some real news! @TheSun...

The Sun should be ashamed of itself for so blatantly reducing several intelligent, award winning women down to their busty selves.  I guess it’s too much to ask for them to celebrate them for their acting achievements, abilities and other good works.

But this is nothing new.  It’s the same old, same old, repeated, gross, boring, tedious, boorish, tasteless, sexist and regressive attempt to sell newspapers using sex.

2. Moroccan State Television Airs Makeup Tips to Cover Up Bruises from Domestic Violence.

Moroccan women were horrified and enraged after a state television program demonstrated how they could use makeup to cover up facial bruising from domestic violence.  It sparked fury within the country.

The show on the daily program Sabahiyat airing on Channel 2M had a happy, smiling female cosmetician, Lilia Mouline demonstrating how to mask and cover up black and purple bruises around the eyes and on the cheeks of a woman’s face.

"It's a painful and sorrowful topic but on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we will show you the makeup [to cover the signs] of beatings,"

said the smiling cosmetic artist.

"It is a topic we lack the courage to discuss."

She then showed how to cover facial bruising with concealer.

A young female model’s face was made up to appear swollen and covered with fake bruises from a beating.

It basically was a free tutorial giving women tips to “camouflage traces of violence.”

Moroccan state televisions advice to women experiencing domestic violence is to cover up your bruises with makeup.

“After the beating, this part is still sensitive, so don’t press,”

Mouline said in Arabic as she applied makeup on the model’s face, eventually concealing the woman’s fake bruises.

“Use foundation with yellow in it,”

she said.

“If you use the white one, your red punch marks will always show.”

Mouline also suggested certain foundation tones for most effectively disguising a woman’s unfortunate “beating.”

Towards the end of the show, Mouline cheerfully said,

"Make sure to use loose powder to fix the makeup, so if you have to work throughout the day, the bruises don’t show,"

before she recommended the best beauty products for heavy coverage foundations and concealers.  She continued,

“We hope these beauty tips will help you carry on with your daily life”.

Moroccan Makeup Cover Up Domestic Abuse

Image Credit: Samia Errazzouki's tweet on Nov 25, 2016

It was broadcasted on November 23rd, two days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

People who watched the show said on social media that it was "brainwashing" women to believe that violence was a normal and acceptable part of a relationship and that the right thing to do was to conceal it rather than report it.

Public response was immediate with outrage.  A group calling themselves Concerned Moroccan Citizens started an online petition.  The petition stated that the "standardisation of violence against women" must be denounced.

It called for the High Authority of Audiovisual Communication (HACA) to take action against television station 2M.

The petition was signed by hundreds of women with them demanding an apology and for sanctions to be taken against the television station.

“As Moroccan women and as feminist activists in Morocco and in the name of all Moroccan people, we denounce the message of normalisation with violence against women," the petition read.

"We demand severe sanctions against this show, 'Sabahiyat' and the channel 2M."

It continued “The violence should not be covered by makeup and the aggressors have to be condemned.”

"Do not cover domestic violence with makeup, condemn the aggressor!" the petition read.

They encouraged signatories to contact the High Authority of Audiovisual Communication, demanding it take action against Channel 2M and Sabahiyat.

"No woman should ever have to live through domestic violence, let alone consider covering up its traces.  Shame on you 2M," one petition supporter said.

Numerous men also expressed their disbelief over the show and expressed their support for women.

Domestic violence is not a crime in Morocco.   In 2009, a national survey  by the Moroccan High Commission for Planning found that nearly two-thirds — 62.8 percent — of women ages 18 to 65 had experienced physical, psychological, sexual or economic violence.

Of the sample interviewed, 55 percent reported “conjugal” violence and 13.5 percent reported “familial” violence.

Only 3 percent of those who had experienced conjugal violence had reported it to the authorities.

Morocco does not have any laws against domestic violence.

Human Rights Watch stated that not only is violence against women widespread in the country but it also reported on Morocco’s weak response to preventing domestic violence, protecting survivors who seek help and prosecuting abusers.

Humans Right Watch interviewed 20 women and girl survivors of domestic violence who said that their husbands, partners and other family members punched, kicked, burned, stabbed and also raped them.

At the start of 2016, Human Rights Watch sent a letter to the Moroccan government expressing concern about the way women who experienced domestic violence were treated.

"Moroccan police, prosecutors, judges, and other authorities often fail to prevent domestic abuse, punish the abusers, or assist survivors," the organisation said.

"In part, that is because Moroccan laws don’t provide officials with guidance on responding effectively.

The Moroccan government has drafted a law on violence against women but it has been pending with the government since 2013.

A draft bill criminalizing domestic violence was passed by the first chamber of parliament, the House of Representatives, in Morocco in July.

However, due to a general election last month, it had yet to be reviewed by the second chamber, the House of Councillors.

Human Rights Watch reported that, "While the draft has good elements, it lacks a strong definition of domestic violence and does not criminalise marital rape."

3. Donald Trumps Numerous Transgressions and Misogyny Against Women

Donald Trump

Donald Trump

Donald Trump has on numerous occasions, almost every chance he gets has emphatically stated that no one has more respect for women than he does.

But just how much does Donald Trump respect women?

Well, in this disgusting Snake Oil Salesmen video, Trump even claims that, 'I respect women more than I respect men.'

I'll just let him tell you some more.  Preaching the same ol' re-hashed sermon over and over and over again.

The reason for this is that Trump obviously feels that the media is being terribly unfair to him by focusing on his numerous past insults, infantile name calling and demeaning comments about women.

Here in chronological order by date are 12 separate occasions where Donald Trump has felt the need to clear the air on the amount of respect he has for women.

He lets us all know how much he deeply reveres women, how he holds them in his utmost highest regard and finally how much he admires and unlike "Crooked" Hillary Clinton even cherishes them.

Trumps 12 Preachy Sermons

1. "I cherish women.  I want to help women.  I'm going to do things for women that no other candidate will be able to do."

August 9, 2015 on CNN's State of the Union.

2. "They say, 'You can't say that because it's sexist.'  I say, 'What's sexist about it?'  I respect women more than I respect men.  I have great respect, admiration and I cherish women."

September 23, 2015 referring to criticism of GOP primary candidate Carly Fiorina during a speech in South Carolina

3. "I respect women incredibly.  I have had women working for me in positions that they've never worked in terms of construction, in terms of so many different jobs.  I respect women, I love women, I cherish women. You know, Hillary Clinton said, 'he shouldn't cherish,' well I said, I do cherish, I love women."

October 12, 2015 in response to teen, college student Lauren Batchelder's question at the No Labels Problem Solver Convention in New Hampshire.

4. "I have tremendous respect for women and I am going to protect women.  (My daughter Ivanka) said, 'Dad, you respect and love women so much, could you talk about it more because people don't really understand how you feel.'"

October 26, 2015 during a Today show town hall in New Hampshire.

5. "(Hillary Clinton) said this guy has demonstrated a penchant for sexism.  Nobody respects women more than Donald Trump."

December 30, 2015 at a political rally on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

6. "I have more respect for women than Hillary Clinton has.  I have more respect than Hillary Clinton, OK?  I will take care of this country far better than Hillary."

January 10, 2016, on Fox News Sunday

7. "The media is so after me on women.  Wow, this is a tough business.  Nobody has more respect for women than Donald Trump!"

March 26, 2016 in one of his infamous tweets.

8. "First of all, nobody respects women more than Donald Trump, I'll tell you.  Nobody respects women more.  My daughter Ivanka always says, 'Daddy, nobody respects women more than you, Daddy, what are they talking about?'"

May 6, 2016 at an election rally in Eugene, Oregon

9. "Hillary Clinton just ordered $80 million worth of hit ads on Donald Trump ... and it's hit ads on Donald Trump and women.  Nobody respects women more than I do."

May 7, 2016 at a campaign rally in Lynden, Washington

10. "She can't talk about me because nobody respects women more than Donald Trump and I will be better for women by a big factor than Hillary Clinton, who frankly, I don't even think will be good to women."

May 9, 2016 on CNN's New Day

11. "I was so furious at that story because there's nobody that respects women more than I do, Sean, you know that. And I treat women with respect.  And I have ... we all have fun.  We all have good times."

May 18, 2016  Responding to a New York Times story during an interview with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity

12. "A lot of that was done for the purpose of entertainment, there's nobody that has more respect for women than I do."

October 5, 2016 talking about past remarks on women's looks, in an interview with KSNV in Nevad.

Donald Trump's Total Disrespect for Women

Donald Trump had a full year filled with numerous incidents against women including the 10 women who publicly spoke out against him for sexual improprities after the release of the Access Hollywood video.

And lets also not forget the national, public humiliation of the 4 female accusers of Bill Clinton before the 2nd Presidential debate.

Here are just a few of them.

Lauren Batchelder:

18 year old college student Lauren Batchelder who lived a life of pure hell over 2015 and 2016, when she was targeted by Trump in a tweet in October 2015, after she spoke her mind at a political rally.

Trump was not happy that Batchelder questioned him and challenged him publicly. He used his tweets to rail against, verbally attack and disparage Batchelder.

He called her an “arrogant young woman” who “questioned me in such a nasty fashion.”

When Donald Trump turns on private citizens he knows there’s a dog whistle order in effect.   He doesn’t need to issue any threats himself because he knows he has an army of devoted, redneck, violent, crazed, psycho followers who will.

One night Trump’s social media director fed Trump’s followers, Batchelder’s social media accounts.  Trump’s tweeting incited his followers to harass Batchelder online with violent physical threats, rape and murder.

His followers took the bait and went after her in droves, publishing her address and flooding her inbox with violent physical and sexual threats, including rape and murder.

“I didn’t really know what his supporters were going to do and that to me was the scariest part,” said Batchelder.

All this made Batchelder’s life a living hell on earth for the next year.

Here is one of the threats she received on Facebook,

"Wishing I could fucking punch you in the face. id then proceed to stomp your head on the curb and urinate in your bloodied mouth and i know where you live, so watch your fucking back punk."

Megyn Kelly:

Trump holding grievances and grudges against Megyn Kelly directed several implied and veiled threats towards the Fox journalist making her feel unsafe enough for her to employ a security detail for her and her family for over a year.

At one point Trump said to her, ‘That’s it.  You’re a disgrace, you outta be ashamed of yourself’ and then he said, ‘I almost unleashed my beautiful Twitter account against you and I still may,'”

In a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper, Kelly stated, “We had security guards the whole year, I mean, the threat level just got so high that it was impossible not to take that seriously.”

Alicia Machado:

Donald Trump sunk so low as to attack an ex-Beauty Queen, Alicia Machado on Twitter.

It was alleged that he had continued with his childish name calling by referring to her as Miss Piggy, Miss Housekeeping and Miss Eating Machine in order to humiliate her.

Given these are unproven allegations, it is not that difficult to believe them given all the other infantile name calling "Douchebag Donald" has resorted to, like,

  • Lyin' Ted Cruz
  • Little Marco Rubio/Robot Rubio
  • Low-Energy Jeb Bush
  • 1 for 38 Kasich
  • Crazy Bernie Sanders
  • Goofy Elizabeth Warren AKA Pocahontas
  • Crooked Hillary Clinton
  • Liddle' Bob Corker
  • Cryin' Chuck Schumer/Fake Tears Chuck Schumer
  • Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd
  • Little George Stephanopoulos
  • Crazy Megyn
  • Wacky Glenn Beck/Wacko Glenn Beck
  • Psycho Joe Scarborough
  • Dumb as a Rock Mika/Low I.Q Crazy Mika
  • Little Rocket Man Kim Jong-un
  • Wacky Congresswoman Wilson
  • Sloppy Steve Bannon
  • Sneaky Dianne Feinstein
  • Crazy Jim Acosta Little
  • Little Adam Schiff
  • Lamb the Sham (Connor Lamb)

He’s also been known to insult women be calling them lightweight, loser, moron, dummy, overrated and stupid. These are the insults Trump repeatedly hurls at women.

He even went so far as to accusing Machado of making a sex tape which was proven to be a complete lie.  And he fails to even acknowledge or address his own sleazy, disgusting, lecherous sex tape as he starred in below.

Donald Trump's Sleazy, Disgusting, Lecherous Porn Video:

Hillary Clinton:

There are way too many instances of Donald Trump’s numerous transgressions against Hillary Clinton to write about here, from his childish name calling of “Crooked Hillary”, to his bringing in of Bill Clinton’s female accusers before the 2nd Presidential debate, to his creepy stalking of Hillary on stage in the second debate.

They would fill volumes.

But the most notable one is his inciteful chant to his supporters to Lock Her Up.  See the video below:

Against Women in General:

Donald Trump showed his true character towards women when he got caught live on camera and on tape in the Access Hollywood Pussygate video.

He was heard live saying stuff like,

“I moved on her, actually. You know, she was down on Palm Beach. I moved on her, and I failed. I’ll admit it.”

“I did try and fuck her. She was married.”

“... and I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping.”

“She wanted to get some furniture.  I said, “I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture.”  I took her out furniture ...”

“I moved on her like a bitch.  But I couldn’t get there. And she was married.”

“I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her.  You know, I’m automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet.  Just kiss.  I don’t even wait.  And when you’re a star, they let you do it.  You can do anything.”

“Grab ’em by the pussy.  You can do anything.”

“O.K., absolutely.  Melania said this was O.K.”

4. How a Silicon Valley Executive Who Allegedly Punched and Kicked his Girlfriend 117 Times & Charged with 47 Felony Charges was Rewarded with a Great New Job.

Gurbaksh Chahal

Image Credit: Via Wikimedia Commons. Via Radiumone. This file is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.

Gurbaksh Chahal, a wealthy Silicon Valley internet entrepreneur who pleaded guilty to assault after police claimed he punched and kicked his then girlfriend 117 times in 30 minutes in his $7 million Condo in 2013, was appointed as an adviser at a venture capital firm, NIN Ventures headquatered in Chicago.

His hiring came less than six months after Chahal was sentenced to a year in jail for violating his probation by allegedly physically assaulting a second woman only months after pleading guilty to the first incident.

His sentence was subsequently suspended pending an appeal.

Chahal had been at the center of this firestorm since he was arrested and charged with 47 serious felony charges for his alleged attack on August 5, 2013.

Police stated that a 30 minute security camera video in his Condo showed the entrepreneur continually hitting and kicking his girlfriend 117 times and attempted to suffocate her inside his upscale San Francisco penthouse.

Chahal’s lawyers, however, insisted that police had illegally seized the video without getting a warrant.

The judge ruled that the video footage was inadmissible in court despite the prosecutor’s argument that the police officers didn't have time to secure a warrant out of the risk and fear that the tech executive would erase the footage.

Without this crucial video evidence, most of the charges were dropped against Chahal and he pleaded guilty to two lesser misdemeanor battery charges of domestic violence.

He avoided jail time by his lawyers negotiating a sweet deal in which he agreed to complete a year-long domestic violence rehabilitation program, serve 25 hours of community service and be on 3 years probation.

However, about a year later on September 17, 2014 prosecutors claim he attacked another young woman in his home, which led to a 2nd arrest and a year-long jail term.

The Wall Street Journal dug up a second outrage against these women, who were all victims of abuse.  It reported how the company’s Board of Directors did everything in their power to save RadiumOne’s IPO amid these horrific allegations.

They were so consumed with greed, that they meticulously planned a detailed damage control strategy to minimize the fallout.

Venture capitalist, RadiumOne director and former California State Controller, Steve Westly, also wielded his considerable political clout to attempt to contain the domestic violence scandal from derailing RadiumOne’s planned IPO and his riches.

Chahal also payed former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown a $250,000 retainer fee, stating in an email obtained by the Journal that Brown “Wants $1 million if he can make this go away,” obviously referring to the numerous felony charges filed against him.

Browns efforts to sway district attorney George Gascon failed dismally and Brown was forced to return $198,400 of the retainer, keeping the rest.

Another lawsuit citing age and gender discrimination, harassment, retaliation and unlawful electronic eavesdropping was filed against Chahal and the company by Gravity4’s former Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Erika Alonso.

According to the suit, Chahal clandestinely watched a live video feed of Alonso’s initial interview.  He then texted and prompted the interviewer to ask her whether she believed he was guilty in the domestic violence case.

Now really, how controlling and creepy is that?   No matter how good a creative writer you may be, it's just impossible to make all this good stuff up.

Chahal's entrepreneurial journey started when he dropped out of high school at the young, tender, impressionable age of only 16.  He founded an advertising network startup which he sold about two years later at the height of the tech, dot-com bubble for a whoopin' $22 million.  He then invested that windfall to form his new company, BlueLithium, which Yahoo later shelled out a cool $300 million for.

That’s when Chahal with an inflated ego and fame & fortune going to his already big, fat swollen head started an unabashed display of blatant narcissism and self-promotion.

It including an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show with his family supporting him in the audience.  He was promoted as one of the world’s youngest and wealthiest entrepreneurs

Domestic violence organizations have highly criticized his hiring by NIN Ventures, arguing that it sends a very disturbing message to society that privileged and wealthy people can get away with committing violent acts against women.

Beverly Upton, executive director of the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium stated, “It sends a very disturbing message that this is OK.  He is awaiting what could be a year’s jail sentence, but he’s out in the world and we are not sure he’s learned anything."

"We think he’s a public safety risk.”

She continued “We see it in politics, we see it in corporate America, we see it in sports and we see it in Silicon Valley.”

Jacquie Marroquin from the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence stated, “This could be disheartening to any survivor who is seeking justice and healing and can be a dangerous message for those who are considering speaking out in their personal and professional lives about the harm they’ve experienced.”

“We’re calling on all companies, including those in Silicon Valley, to keep the safety of domestic violence survivors central to their business practices so that all employees can work in a safe and supportive environment.” she added.

5. Blatant Unadulterated Sexist Discrimination

In summer of 2016 it came to the worlds attention that Muirfield Golf Club members in Edinburgh, Scotland still believe and are fiercely proud of the fact that they are living in dark, damp caves from the Dark Ages.

Muirfield Park Bench

Muirfield’s 616 members held a highly controversial vote, specifically on female membership.  Owned and operated by The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the vote was not very honourable towards women.

And as usual, Twitter lit up like a pinball machine on steroids ... here's how one neanderthal so eloquently put it,

I think all women should be banned from golf clubs, and while we're at it we should take away their right to vote. 👍

The egotistical, paternalistic, stubborn, macho boys' club had been discussing letting icky, smelly, touchy, feely, soft girls with minds of their own into their den for THREE years running and now it was time for another vote.

The all male club ultimately decided against female membership, returning a vote of 64 per cent for and 36 per cent against – slightly short of a two-thirds majority or 14 votes needed to change its Constitution, making them one of Scotland's last male-only golf clubs.

Outspoken Cormac McCormack had this to say,

NO vote to women members by Muirfield Golf Club!! Absolutely disgusting in this day n age!!! Grow some balls ye withery oul bolloxes!! &A

From a Sky News report, The Scottish Government's Equalities Secretary, Angela Constance MSP stated unequivocally, "Muirfield's current position is quite simply wrong and indefensible."

"This is 21st century Scotland - with kindness, can I say to Muirfield it's time to get out the dark ages and enter and embrace the 21st century, because opening their membership up to women is not only the right thing to do, this is the smart thing to do as well."

"This is bad for the club, bad for the local economy and it's time for Muirfield to do the right thing."

Quincy Jones piped in with a deep, meaningful and extremely insightful,

The Muirfield vote justifies my opinion that golf is actually a game for cunts

And Terry Sylvester certainly gave Muirfield members a piece of her mind with,

Muirfield Golf Club members vote not to have lady members, a joke, stupid old farts who should live on a man only island, bloody idiots, 👊

Quoting the numbers and giving credit where it's due, Anne Foley Smith provided an unsolicited though practical solution in the form of,

Hurrah for 397 men who had the(golf)balls to vote in favour of lady members @MuirfieldGolf; castration for 219 against. Grow some

And the ever resourceful papprazi Scott Wales managed to snap a candid shot of Muirfield's Directors celebratory teeing off for a round after their successful vote,

BREAKING Directors head out for a round shortly after the vote 2 keep the club in the 19th century

Simon Delaney was thoughtful enough to share a dirty joke, something about 219 members orifices ...

Good joke in the Times about Muirfield golf club's vote not to allow women members:18 holes on the course & 219 arseholes in the club house.

A poll released shortly afterwards found 80 per cent of Scots considered the ban “damaging to Scotland’s reputation”.  Midst the resulting worldwide condemnation from the vote, Facebook and Twitter lit up.

Muirfield's No-Women vote could be extended: No under 25s; no pensioners; no lefties; no hippies; no footie fans; no one left to play golf.

Facebook user Gil Thomson defended the decision by saying,

“as the 'gentleman members of Muirfield Golf Club' started the club and have been responsible for its upkeep throughout the years, is it unreasonable for them to decide who should play on their course?"

Where Bethany Wheatley opposed it with a nice, warm, fuzzy family story,

This is brilliant! I got my love of golf from my grandfather and dad, who are appalled at the Muirfield vote.…

Another Facebook user, David Rees also posted an opposing view,

"They define their club as 'the home of honourable golfers'?  Guess they have had an irony bypass, in the belief that irons are male? Bet if he were around today Tommy Morris would have shaken the old farts up."

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also decided to get into the fray and tweeted,

Scotland has women leaders in every walk of life.  It is 2016.  This is simply indefensible.…

While Steve Holt was critical of the minister with,

Pressure mounts over 'men only' Muirfield golf vote -… Typical @NicolaSturgeon; sticking her beak in yet again. 😩

Ruth Holdaway, the chief executive of the Women In Sport charity, said: 'The decision by members of Muirfield to vote against allowing women golfers to join the Open-hosting club is dreadful.

'It is astonishing that in 2016 we even have to have a debate about this issue, let alone face the reality that after a two-year consultation, the 'old guard', who appear to have lobbied the membership around this vote, have got their way.

'Whilst other golf clubs, including the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and Royal St George's, have recently made the right decision and brought its membership policies in line with gender equality in the 21st century, today's vote is an appalling step backwards.

Daniel Maddison always the forward thinker, extended the discussion with,

@bbcsport I look forward to the vote on Muirfield allowing blacks, gypsies, dogs and gays as members.

But the ultimate female revenge came in the form of an anonymously affixed plaque, solidly screwed on to a particularly fetching, comfy park bench in Edinburgh's West Princes Street Gardens, which "excludes" members of Muirfield, a 272 year old club, in Gullane, East Lothian from sitting on the said bench.

The plaque, which was seen over the weekend, unequivocally states: "The members of Muirfield Golf Club are hereby excluded from sitting on this bench.  By order of the female population of Edinburgh."

Fooooooooooooooooooooooooooore!  A hole in one.  Well played girls ...

Now who knows?  It could have even been Jessica Erin who commissioned and mounted that plaque, given the way she felt below,

We can vote and run a country but we're not allowed to join your pretentious golf club.

A post featuring a picture of the plaque on Facebook has gone viral and been liked over 10,000 times, shared over 2,300 times and has received 320 comments.  On Twitter, the picture was re-tweeted well over 1000 times.

And to rub a little salt in Muirfild's shameful wounds, here's a picture of four lovely lassies sitting on said bench ... you can see the small bronze plaque in between them ...

Some people, like Piers Hewitt below, couldn't figure out what the Muirfield Members Morons Club (MMMC) issue was with women ...

I would love to know what beef the chaps had that decided to vote against women being able to join Muirfield Golf Club. Bunch of morons.

Word has it, from an internal leaked memo, that the membership No Vote was based on some serious concerns as described below.

It reveals the lack of openness, lack of inclusion, lack of effort existing members are willing to make, the stubbornness to implement progressive change and the rationalization for the desire to preserve and maintain the status quo:

The Leaked Memo:

“The introduction of lady members is bound to create difficulties. Regardless of the conventions when they first join they are likely over time to question our foursomes play, our match system, the uncompromising challenge our fine links present, our lunch arrangements.

It will take a very special lady golfer to be able to do all the things that are expected of them in the template which is suggested and the ladies membership as a whole may not meet this standard.”

It continues, “It seems very strange to take a step to fundamentally change a strong institution with real risks to that strength in order to retain a “one off” event that happens rarely.  This is made even more strange when it is possible that the change may not work.”

Like the above memo, Douglas Jacobberger's irony filled tweet below, just shows how unreasonable and demanding shit disturbing women, who have trouble fitting in, can be, if you open up an exclusive, golf club membership to them ...

Muirfield golf club controversy: Where are women still not allowed?… Next thing women will want a right to vote. 🙂

This memo reveals the severely limited and deeply scarred psyche of Muirfield golf club members.

They seem to live in a caveman, dinosaur world, where their greatest fears and concerns revolve around being questioned by women about their clubs structure, operations & about their clubs so called “lunch arrangements” (what a joke).

Mountain Boy's vivid graphic down under does visual justice to this situation,

The members of celebrate their vote with a round of golf.

They obviously are not able to accept women and adapt to progressive 21st Century change.

Due to the combination of overwhelming public outrage, negative media coverage, a damaged reputation, the loss of the right to host the prestigious Open Championship and intense political pressure, Muirfield decided to revisit their stupid, idiotic, numbnutz decision to ban women from joining the "Dishonorable" Company of Edinburgh Golfers and hold a 2nd vote.

"Pay attention ladies! We're taking a 2nd vote on allowing women members!" 😂

With the 2nd vote, the depiction below is a golf world most of us are envisioning at Muirfield ...

In response to Alistair Tait's tweet below, yes the dinosaurs certainly could.  As my good Scottish friend George King says, "Daft like a gate on a windy day! ... "

So HCEG at Muirfield will announce results of 2nd vote on women members. They couldn’t be daft enough to vote no twice, could they?

Rage on Jamie Ross, rage on ...

I'm on my way to Muirfield golf club for the result of their new vote on accepting female members. Second referendums are all the rage.

Another candid shot, "au natural", of a Muirfield dinosaur and his dinosaurette wife in tow, tending to his every need so he can go vote on the referendum to once again exclude women from their private boys club.

A member of Muirfield Golf Club with his wife, on route to attending the vote to allow female members after 300 years.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017 Muirfield voted 80% in favor of opening membership to women.  Phil below hits the nail right on the head with his simply uncanny ability to read people.  Agreed Phil, Henry Fairweather certainly is one not happy looking camper ... but who cares?

His face isn't saying he is happy about the outcome of the vote to me, 🙂 !!…

As Tracey and Simon both rightly state below, unfortunately, selfish self-interest, money and prestige always wins over decency and doing the right thing.

Great news that golf club now accept women. Let's be clear tho, this wasn't a vote for equality but a desire to keep

The vote to allow women members is self interest in protecting status rather than promoting

6. Violent Messaging Against Women Making them Targets of Hate and Disrespect

A big round of applause and a standing ovation (irony) goes to Mr. Ernest Bothi, President of the Big Country Oilmen's Association who held their annual oilmen’s golf tournament at Brooks Golf Course in Brooks, Alberta, Canada.

Rachel Notley Golf Target

Rachel Notley Golf Target on Brooks Golf Course.  Image Credit: Wojtek Gwiazda  Tweet June 18, 2016.

Mr. Bothi was the organizer and in a burst of inspiration & creativity while exercising his good business and politically correct judgement (more irony) created a huge, oversized picture of the NDP Premier of Alberta, Right Honourable Rachel Notley’s face.

He then tacked it onto a cardboard target which was then propped up on the 11th hole of the golf course for the Oilmen’s Association member golfers to use as target practice with their golf balls.

A picture of it, since taken down, was posted on Twitter and the image was captioned “Just love the #notley target at the oilmen’s golf tourney.”

Other users had already taken screenshots and the image quickly circulated on social media.

A video was also posted on Facebook of a golf cart running down the target to the laughter of several people.  The Facebook video was later taken down.

The video can be seen here in a CBC Edmonton news story.  It depicts a dash-cam-style shot of laughing golfers crashing into it and running it over.

If you just saw the video, it's pretty pathetic, infintile, childish and disgusting, eh?

Mr. Bothi, felt he had nothing to be sorry about and defended his right to have it there.

He said the photo of Notley was placed intentionally and was meant to be a target and continued that the sign was meant as lighthearted fun.

“It was a thing of humour” and his “goal was to make people laugh.”, he added.

He defended his actions, said that no one hit the target and that "There was even women on the course who got a good chuckle out of it.''

But, as political and public outrage and condemnation grew, he finally succumbed and apologized for offending anyone.

Once again, Twitter lit up:

The Alberta Oil dudes. Used the likeness of Rachel Notley as a target, then ran over her with a golf cart. But it's not sexism.

@BobRae48 @acoyne the disgusting targeting of Rachel Notley on a golf course, makes me embarrassed that AB bigots are Canadian. Shame

'Sorry IF anyone was offended' by Rachel Notley target is not an apology. How about 'sorry we're so stupid'?

And then here is a right wing, wingnut escalating it to another level:

Since the Rachel Notley golf target is triggering so many, I think I'll be mocking something like it up for the rifle range.

Using the Premier's face as a target promoted a violent message.

It was also extremely inappropriate to put a woman's face on a target, especially following the recent murder of female British MP Jo Cox.

Calgary Conservative MP Michelle Rempel, who has been outspoken about online threats female politicians often face, expressed incredulity over the gigantic, poster board target.

Outraged, she said, “You spent a whole bunch of time actually printing up the Premier’s face and putting it up as a target?”

Brandon Beck decided to notch it up one and stoke the fire by requesting his Facebook community to share this,…. Rachel notley and Internet outraged by the oilmen tournament in brooks please share this

“Don’t do that to people.”

Notley and many of her female colleagues have been targets of hate and threats online since taking power in May 2015.

7. Repeated Anonymous Cyber Bullying, Harassment, Hateful, Violent, Physical, Sexual, Rape and Death Threats Against Women from Crazy, Psycho, Looney, Misogynist Thugs.

From October 2015 till the day of the 2016 US Federal election Lauren Batchelder received numerous hateful, violent online physical threats to her person and also death threats all courtesy of loyal, faithful Donald Trump extremist, supporters.

It all started in October 12, 2015 when 18 year old Batchelder, a college student, attended a political forum in New Hampshire and asked a question of Donald Trump about women’s rights and equal pay.

Defending her position, she then defiantly stated with an attitude and rightly so, “So, maybe I’m wrong, maybe you can prove me wrong but I don’t think you’re a friend to women."

Trump interrupted her in mid-question, went on a rant and vigorously defended himself, citing he gave women positions of power at his construction sites, has numerous influential women impacting his life and will support and fund women’s health initiatives.

“I love women, I respect women, I cherish women,” Trump finished off.

Batchelder requested the microphone again and aggressively fought back, “I want to get paid the same as a man and I think you understand that, so if you become president, will a woman make the same as a man? and do I get to choose what I do with my body?”, as she threw her arms up in the air in a questioning gesture.

Clearly aggravated by being challenged by a young feminist a quarter of his age,

Trump responded curtly: “You’re going to make the same if you do as good of a job and I happen to be pro-life, okay?”

At the time, little did she know that by exercising her freedom of speech and expressing her feelings and opinion, that it would ultimately lead to making her life a living hell on earth for the next year.

That night, after midnight, Trump’s director of social media played dirty and tweeted out screen shots of Batchelder’s social-media accounts.

His obvious intent was to feed extremist, radical Trump supporters their juicy, raw, bloodied red meat, for them to sink their teeth into and rip her apart in shreds.

The very next day, Trump evidently not like being taken to task and challenged publicly, tweeted about her, directly accusing her of being an arrogant young woman by tweeting, “The arrogant young woman who questioned me in such a nasty fashion at NO LABELS yesterday ...”

and also, intentionally spreading lies, he falsely accused her of being a political plant from a rival candidate’s campaign.

Everyone including the media were stunned that Trump would sink so low to go after and attack a young female college student.

His radical followers took it a step further by not only negatively rating her physical appearance online but also called her vulgar names, threatened her with violence, rape, murder ...

... not to mention publishing a photoshopped picture of her online depicting her face smothered and dripping with semen.

Batchelder emphatically stated that it wasn't Trump who worried her but that it was how his crazy, whacko, lunatic supporters behaved that left her truly frightened and scared for her safety.

"I didn't really know what anyone was going to do," Batchelder said.

She continued, "He (Trump) was only going to tweet about it and that was it but I didn't really know what his supporters were going to do and that to me was the scariest part."

She began to receive numerous threatening messages by phone, email and on Facebook that were often sexual in nature.

Her contact addresses were publicly circulated on social media and her picture appeared in the news.

Unnerved, scared and frightened for her life, it drove her to flee back home to the safety, security and support of her family.

She stated the threats against her just continued non-stop.

A few days before the election, she received the following scary, disturbing Facebook message,

"Wishing I could fucking punch you in the face. id then proceed to stomp your head on the curb and urinate in your bloodied mouth and i know where you live, so watch your fucking back punk."

Julia called despicable Trump out by tweeting,

@realDonaldTrump re: Lauren Batchelder...attacking a teenager for different views... sic'ng your dogs in social media on her? ?

And Venom totally disgusted with Trump, rightfully so accused him and issued him an insulting challenge with,

@realDonaldTrump I find your treatment of Lauren Batchelder a fucking disgrace. Your a bully of women so how about trying me you filthy wimp

8. A Barrage of Hateful, Vulgar and Misogynistic Tweets Hurled Towards a Female Politician Crossing the Floor.

In late November 2016 Progressive Conservative Calgary, Alberta MLA Sandra Jansen revealed to the legislature that she was the recipient of a barrage of hateful, vulgar and misogynistic Tweets since crossing the floor to join the opposition NDP.

She drew a standing ovation of support from her colleagues of all parties for delivering a tense, uncomfortable yet impassioned speech denouncing the despicable, disgusting and hateful messages.

She went on to read a litany of the most vile, demeaning and despicable comments she had received on Facebook and Twitter, so everyone in the legislature was aware of the degree of offensive, hate mongering she had received:

  • "What a traitorous bitch!"
  • "Another useless tit goes NDP."
  • "Dumb broad. A good place for her to be is with the rest of the queers."
  • "Dead meat."
  • "Sandra should stay in the kitchen, where she belongs."
  • "Fly with the crows and get shot."
  • "Lying bitches."
  • "Now you have two blond bimbos in a party that is clueless."
  • "You are both a disgrace to Alberta."

Her argument made and the legislature apparently stunned and shocked into silence, Jansen then pleaded to her colleagues in all parties to take a strong, unequivocable stand against hate speech directed at women in politics.

"If you are stunned by the words you have heard in the last few days, if you reject the inherent violence behind them and you know that harassment and abuse, even if it's verbal, even if it's online and even if it's directed at a political opponent, is poison.”

“Let us be strong and clear in our resolve that no matter where we sit along political lines, we stand together against this.” spoke Jansen.

She continued, "If we don't feed it, we must oppose it.  Please oppose it.  Don't ignore it. Don't look the other way. Don't excuse it.  Because our daughters are watching us."

Girls and young women witness the challenges faced by women in politics, Jansen said and they often hear the abuse directed at them.

Gwyneth Dunsford totally without speech expressed her shame with,

ICYMI:… MLA Sandra Jansen speaks out about misogyny. I'm speechless. Shame, AB. Shame.

"Imagine if we let that poison become normalized?" Jansen asked.  "Or if our daughters forego the political arena altogether.  That scares me."

Jansen had crossed the floor to join the NDP, nine days after she dropped out of the PC leadership race.

She quit the race after alleging she was harassed and intimidated by volunteers from another candidate's campaign.

Another female candidate, Donna Kennedy-Glans also dropped out of the leadership race on the same day, leaving four men as the only candidates to lead the party that was swept from power by the NDP in May 2015.

Jansen, first elected in 2012 has since been assigned a temporary protection unit to accompany her for her safety from these disturbing threats.

Mike Gibbs so rightly places Jansen's misogyny speech in it's historical perspective with,

Sandra Jansen joins Julia Gillard on the list of historic, notable speeches on misogyny.…

9. Repeated Sexual Harrassment, Sexual Assault, Non-Consensual Rough Sex/Choking, History of He Said-She Said Accusations and Allegations

CBC TV host Jian Ghomeshi’s early 2016 trial for sexual harassment and assault were splattered all across the front pages of Canadian newspapers and on TV.

He also faced a second separate trial in mid 2016 on a separate sexual assault charge.

Jian Ghomeshi

Jian Ghomeshi, Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons

The Toronto police had launched an investigation of him in 2104.

In October 2014 Ghomeshi lost his job at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and he countered by filing a $50 million law suit against them.

Ghomeshi also hired a Public Relations firm to represent him.

The media published a story containing allegations from three women who say Ghomeshi was physically violent to them without their consent leading up to and during the sexual encounters.

“The three women interviewed … allege he struck them with a closed fist or open hand, bit them, choked them until they almost passed out, covered their nose and mouth so that they had difficulty breathing and that they were verbally abused during and after sex.

A fourth woman, who worked at the CBC, stated Ghomeshi told her at work,

“I want to hate fuck you.”

Another anonymous woman came forward and claimed that she was on a date with Ghomeshi ten years ago when he “threw me in front of him on the ground and started closed-fist pounding me on the head repeatedly until my ears were ringing” in an interview on a CBC radio show.

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair held a press conference to ask anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to come forward to the police.

The media then published another article with allegations from a total of eight women, including Trailer Park Boys actress Lucy DeCoutere.

She said, “Because it was a date, we started kissing, which was very normal.  And then at a certain point he pressed me against the wall with my throat and then he slapped me, which was not invited.”

Ghomeshi’s numerous complainants accused him of being violent and physical including being violently choked and slapped multiple times.

The PR firm that Ghomeshi hired, suddenly dropped him as a client and no longer represented him.

While this was playing out Ghomeshi hired prominent criminal lawyer Marie Henein to represent him.

Another woman, a lawyer and author Reva Seth also claimed in a blog post that Ghomeshi assaulted her during a date that seemed normal at first.

It started with some kissing before he “suddenly” changed.

Seth continues, “Jian had his hands around my throat, had pulled down my pants and was aggressively and violently penetrating me with his fingers.

"When it was over, I got up and it was clear I was really angry.”

Ghomeshi’s CBC colleague Kathryn Borel also spoke out and alleges there were “uninvited back massages” and describes an incident in which Ghomeshi grabbed her waist from behind in front of a co-worker and “repeatedly thrust his crotch” into her.

Unbelievably, with all this evidence the male judge acquitted Ghomeshi of all charges on the basis that there was insufficient evidence to establish proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ghomeshi eventually signed a peace bond, essentially a “Get out of Jail” free card in exchange for the prosecution dropping a charge of sexual assault against him.

He also apologized in court for his “thoughtless and insensitive” behaviour to Borel who had accused him of sexually assaulting her at the CBC.

Borel publicly spoke after Ghomeshi apologized, stating she agreed to a peace bond over a trial because “it seemed like the clearest path to the truth.”

She later stated that his courtroom apology to her is a clear admission of his guilt, despite it not leading to a conviction of Ghomeshi.

10. How Wealth and Power in a Paternalistic Society Exonerates a Footballer of Rape, 2 Years After His Conviction.

Ched Evans

Image Credit: Via Wikimedia Commons, Ched Evans

In October 2016 International footballer Ched Evans rape conviction was reversed in a London re-trial.

He was now miraculously found not guilty of the rape of a 19-year-old woman.

Justice denied due to a tainted verdict?  Decide for yourself.

This new verdict clearing Evans was tainted beyond belief and has all the hallmarks of wealth and power being able to buy a guilty persons innocence.

This new verdict was tainted by the defence being accused of offering; a financial inducement, a bounty, a “flavour of a bribe”, a reward of £50,000 pounds for favorable testimony on behalf of the defendant.

The verdict was also tainted by the testimony of two new witnesses accused of being “fed” information by the defence team.

Both of them were suddenly now able to recount specific, detailed, graphic evidence against the rape victim, basically putting her character and prior sexual history on trial.

The verdict was tainted by Evans’ friends and family bankrolling a high-profile campaign to try to prove his innocence.

The Ched Evans website offered a £50,000 reward for information leading to the footballer’s acquittal, posted versions of that night’s events favorable to him and made allegations against the rape victim.

In the first two years of its operation it received more than 2 million hits.

The verdict was tainted by Evans’ fiancee, Natasha Massey, being accused by the prosecution during the re-trial of trying to induce a key prosecution witness to change his evidence by flagging up the existence of the reward.

The verdict was tainted by the wealth of Evans and Massey, a millionaire’s daughter.

It allowed the Evans camp to assemble a team of PR professionals and high priced lawyers who worked together and succeeded in getting the accusations against Evans back before a fresh, new jury.

Such incredibly deep, financial resources are available to very few convicted men.

Evans had spent two and a half years in jail after being convicted in 2012 of raping the young woman following a drunken night out, filled with alleged lechery and debauchery in his home town of Rhyl, North Wales.

Following his conviction, a well-funded legal and PR campaign that included the offer of a £50,000 reward for information leading to his acquittal was launched by family, friends and close supporters.

The campaign eventually resulted in the case going to the court of appeal in London, where his conviction was eventually quashed.

After an eight-day trial, a jury at Cardiff crown court took just two hours to acquit Evans.  He kept his head down in court as the foreman returned the unanimous verdict.

Here’s how the story began.

The rape victim told the jury she woke up naked in a hotel room in Rhyl, North Wales, in May 2011 with absolutely no memory of what had happened the previous night before.

She feared that her drinks had been spiked, was unfairly taken advantage off and that she was forcefully, sexually penetrated against her will.

Friends suggested and encouraged her to file a police report.

While investigating the crime, officers found out that the room in which she woke up in, just happened to have turned out to have been reserved and paid for by footballer Evans.

Evans was questioned and both he and his friend, fellow sleazebag footballer Clayton McDonald voluntarily admitted that they both had consensual sexual intercourse with the woman.

The prosecution rebutted that the rape victim could not possibly have consented to sexual intercourse because she was too intoxicated.

In court, under oath, Evans admitted that he lied to obtain the key for the hotel room.

Additionally, he claimed that he did not speak to the woman before, during or after having sexual intercourse with her.

He stated that he discretely left by a fire exit.

During the case, it came to light that Evans’s younger brother Ryan Roberts and another young man, Jack Higgins were voyeuristically peering through the hotel room window and attempted to film them having sexual intercourse from outside the room.

There are just too many convenient events occurring in this story to suggest that this was nothing more than a colluded, pre-meditated, planned rape of an innocent young woman by two alleged Alpha male, sexual predators.

Pretty sad and pathetic when you think about it.

11. A Woman Politician, Humanitarian and Mother of Two is Stabbed Repeatedly and Murdered in Cold Blood

On 16 June 2016, a tragic, fatal and final outcome was imposed on Jo Cox, as the British Labour Party female MP died after being shot and stabbed multiple times in Birstall, West Yorkshire, England.

A 53-year-old unemployed gardener, Thomas Mair, with a history of mental illness, who had ties with British nationalist, pro-apartheid and neo-Nazi groups was arrested in connection with Cox's death.

Mair expressed racist and anti-semetic views, was a Holocaust denier and admired the neo-Nazi band Skrewdriver.

The cold blooded politically motivated murder was motivated by extreme right-wing beliefs and by the highly controversial European referendum campaign or Brexit, in which Cox had supported the campaign to remain in the EU.

Mair was heard screaming, shouting and cried out "This is for Britain" as well as "keep Britain independent" and "Britain first” as he carried out the attack.

Jo Cox’s years of public service included that she worked several years for the international humanitarian charity Oxfam.

She had also campaigned on issues relating to the Syrian Civil War and had founded & chaired the all-party parliamentary group Friends of Syria.

She had two children, who were aged three and five at the time of her death.  Many thousands of people turned out and paid their respects at her funeral procession.

Former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who was seriously injured in a shooting in 2011, stated that she was "Absolutely sickened to hear of the assassination of Jo Cox.

She was young, courageous and hardworking.  A rising star, mother and wife."

In the Canadian House of Commons, Nathan Cullen, an NDP MP who had known Cox for several years, described her in an emotional tribute as "a dedicated Labour MP and a long advocate of human rights in Britain and around the world".

In July 2016, the Italian Parliament established the Cox Committee, a cross-party committee on intolerance, xenophobia, racism and hate crime, naming it in honour of Cox.

In August, her nomination of the Syrian Civil Defense for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize was accepted by the Nobel Committee.

Cox's killing has been likened to that of Swedish politician Anna Lindh in 2003.

Lindh also was stabbed to death shortly before Sweden's referendum on joining the Euro, which she supported.

Campaigning was also suspended after her killing.

Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter noted: "Like Jo Cox, Anna Lindh was a young, successful politician and both were the mothers of two children.

Both were also participating in campaigns for the EU when they were murdered".

12. Encouraging Intolerance, Hatred, Discrimination and Despicable, Disgusting Behavior Against Female Political Leaders

In early December 2016 in a national media news story, it clearly appeared that Federal Conservative leadership hopeful, Chris Alexander was having a good time, encouraging, supporting, nodding and smiling as the massive, hyped up, energized crowd was yelling and chanting,

“Lock her up!  Lock her up!  Lock her up!  Lock her up!”...

Chris Alexander

Chris Alexander encouraging supporters to chant "Lock her up."         Image Credit: @tansau Tweet Dec 5, 2016

It certainly didn’t take very long for contagious, abhorrent Trump style sleazy, politics to spill over the 5,525 mile long Canada/US border and onto the steps of the Alberta Legislature in Edmonton, Alberta.

Former immigration minister, Alexander was a speaker and leading the charge against Alberta Premier Rachel Notley’s leadership.

The rally attended by well over 1000 people was hosted by the right-wing Rebel Media group to protest the NDP government's plan to impose a carbon tax.

At no point in the video does Alexander attempt to calm the crowd or denounce their chanting.

The incident gave Alexander a “political black eye” that he’ll probably never be able to recover from despite him later adamantly denying that he was supporting and encouraging the crowd to continue with their disgusting chant.

News reports claimed he felt “uncomfortable” during the rally even though he was vocal, spoke against and criticized Notley’s leadership.

Alexander defended his lack of actions by saying,

"It was not something I initiated, it was not something I said at any point and it's not something I agree with. I was smiling because I was trying to think of a way to change the chant."

He claims that he wanted the crowd to chant "vote her out," but instead he took no action and listened passively to what the crowd was yelling.

Despite his vociferous objections and denials, it’s extremely difficult to give Alexander the benefit of the doubt because the proof is in the pudding with him being caught on video smiling, nodding and leading the crowd onwards with their despicable and disgusting behaviour.

It’s so bad, it makes me feel ashamed to admit I’m Canadian given that we Canucks are conditioned to expect ignorant, distasteful, deplorable, hateful, red neck incidents like this to originate from our neighbors down south.

Two Edmonton city councillors took a stand and spoke out against Alexander by later stating that Alexander's reaction to the crowd was not enough.

They believe he should have done the right thing and denounced their disgusting behaviour.

They feel that it’s it's completely irresponsible for a publicly elected official to not stand up against overt discrimination, hatred and intolerance.

Notley has been subject to threats of violence, particularly on social media, since her election in 2015.

13. Men’s Arrogance, Insensitivity, Insincerity, Superficiality and Just Plain Ol’ Brain Dead Thoughtlessness On How Women Should Look

In late April 2016 Facebook and Twitter turned up an abnormal, disproportionate amount of interest in a financially poor though ethically rich, elderly black woman, more than 100 years after her death.

Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman, Image Credit: Wikimedia Commons

Well a significant amount of men didn’t appreciate the fact the way she looked and that her expression and disposition portrayed in her picture was extremely unflattering and wasn’t cheerful enough.

They also were very disappointed that she wasn’t a more “smiley” person.

Who is this mysterious individual that drew an uncommon amount of attention, commentary and critique by the inferior male species?

Drum roll please ... it was none other than the legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

The infamous “conductor” of the Underground Railroad who selflessly, risked her life many times over to help lead hundreds of other slaves to freedom from their Masters in the South.

What caused all this superficial, insensitive ruckus was the fact that Tubman was chosen to replace former President Andrew Jackson on the front of the US $20 bill ... though the change may not go into effect until 2030.

The proposed idea of having a black woman grace the face of the $20 bill was greeted enthusiastically and celebrated by many.

However, others weren’t as overjoyed and expressed their disappointment and disapproval.  Mainly because of Tubmans cold, serious, stern expression severely lacking a warm, womanly smile on her expressionless face.

Generally, comments were made by men that they wanted her to look more cheerful and smile more.

One man complained that her disposition was so grumpy that he would be way too discouraged to buy anything with her face on the bill.

Another suggested a better photo.

Still another wondered why the photographer couldn't make her smile more ... and why would they use the image of a grumpy person.

Yet another claimed she looked really pissed.

A photo where she “looks happier” was requested by still another male.

One guy even had the gall to suggest that they should create a $3.00 bill for them to put her face on.

Terry W Drake tweeted,

"I hope they put a smile on Harriet Tubman for the $20 Bill. I don't like the change. Create a new bill for her, like the three dollar".

With comments like these, naturally a Twitter backlash by both sexes followed.

This included comparing the request for a more cheerful photo of Tubman to the extremely annoying trend of men telling women to smile more.

Sam Bishop-Strand tweeted,

"Men, telling women to "smile" since 1900"

Rachel had this to say,

"You should smile more": Harriet Tubman edition

Erin Ruberry tweeted,

"103 Years After Her Death, Woman Still Being Told to Smile"

Jamil Smith's contribution to the discussion was,

"Stop telling women to smile. (I never thought I'd have to say that about Harriet Tubman, but thanks, misogyny.)"

Yet, others brought up the obvious point that Tubman was fighting against some not-so-smiley, happy and feel good stuff as a weaker, black woman in the 1800’s.

Josh Verges had this to say,

"Yeah, why does she look so grumpy? ... Oh. Oh, right. That makes sense".

The real zinger came from Aria Ahrary when she tweeted,

"Happier while she is risking her life helping slaves escape? If she only knew about photo ops!"

A few people put her photo in a proper time and situational perspective by pointing out that taking photos during those days required people to stay very still for abnormally long periods of time.

Jordan & Rogers tweeted,

"Mostly because the exposure took about 45 minutes, same with painted portraits and lack of open-mouthed smiles"

@BullTranscended @WeedMubarak mostly because the exposure took about 45 minutes, same with painted portraits and lack of open-mouthed smiles

— Jordan Rogers (@RogersWork) April 21, 2016

So pretty much, no one smiled in photographs.

Trisha Collopy tweeted,

"Probably already said but photo exposures took longer back in Harriet Tubman's day.  Few smiled."

Yet others relied on their good ol’ sense of humor to get their point across.

Saskboy tweeted,

"Once she's on the bill, it will be easy for the dude to simply fold it so her mouth smiles, and he'll be happy."

And here's another from @Wildheart_Baby,

"I can't believe Harriet Tubman didn't think to smile in readiness for replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20 a hundred years after her death."

Kelly Cohen's hilarious, tarty sense of humor shone through with,

Now, one cannot deny that Tubman’s serious, stern facial expression undoubtedly mimics other males whose faces are already splattered across various US paper currency. In support of this Urossa Khan contributed,

"never mind that the dude she’s replacing has a scowl on his mug."

— Uroosa Khan (@Uroosa)April 20, 2016

@dagmar27 piped in a very valid,

"To all of the people who think Harriet Tubman needs to have a smile or happier picture on currency...are any of the men smiling?"

To all of the people who think Harriet Tubman needs to have a smile or happier picture on currency...are any of the men smiling?

— Cassie (@dagmar27) April 20, 2016

And social media strategist Erin Ruberry to reinforce @dagmar27’s tweet, just killed it with a cold, stark, visual greenback reminder of the age old double standard, tweeting,

I would expect women to stand up and support women, so Thank God and special kudos go to for all these outspoken men who stood up, did the right thing and responded to these stupid, idiotic, lame brain requests for a smile out of Tubman.

At least they helped cast the rest of us more reasonable guys in a better light ... but more importantly they did good, by letting women everywhere know that we are not all a bunch of arrogant, insensitive, superficial, brain dead, red neck, neanderthal, knuckle dragging dork heads.

14. Hypocrisy, Sexism, Injustice, Misogynistic Policing of Women’s Bodies & Choices and The Dress Code Cops

In August 2016 the French beach town of Cannes banned the so-called burkini, a swimsuit that covers a woman’s body and head worn by women who want to keep their body covered while going for a swim in the sea.

Shortly thereafter, several other French coastal towns did the same, with seven other municipalities banning the swimwear or planning to do so.

In July, the Swiss canton of Ticino made it illegal for women to veil their faces in public.

France, Belgium and the Netherlands have previously imposed full or partial burqa bans.

Fifteen communities on the French Riviera have banned burkinis, a form of swimwear.

Four armed police officers confronted a woman on a beach in Nice because she was wearing a piece of clothing that covered her head.

It was not a burkini.

Nevertheless, while the officers stood around her, she removed the clothing item and the officers wrote her up a ticket.

In the nearby town of Cannes, a 34 year old woman was also given a ticket for wearing a burkini.

The infraction and fine was for the failure to wear "an outfit respecting good morals and secularism."

She was completely humiliated in front of other beach goers who shouted their support for the police officers and coldly told the woman "to go home," while her children cried and were clearly scared and frightened by the authorities.

French Judges had tried to justify their rulings that the burkini bans are "necessary, appropriate and proportionate," as the leisure wear could be viewed as a "provocation exacerbating tensions" in the wake of Islamic extremists increasingly threatening and carrying out horrific, violent attacks in France.

The French Prime Minister in support of the Burkini ban stated that the burkini reflects a worldview based on "the enslavement of women," and that sees women as "impure and that they should therefore be totally covered.”

“That is not compatible with the values of France." he concluded.

15. Gold Medal, World Record Breaking Olympic Calibre Sexism

The Rio 2016 Olympics featured some World Record breaking, Gold medal winning performances of sexist incidents that will forever go down in history.

Throughout history, women have repeatedly faced sexist media coverage.

And the world’s greatest female athletes at a premier showcase event like the Olympics do not get a free pass and certainly are not immune to this phenomenon.

Most times it’s glaring, overt and in your face.

Other times sexism silently oozes out through very subtle nuances in the way women athletes are covered and talked about.

Generally, men are more likely to be described by their dominant physical traits, like their speed, strength, physicality etc, ...

... while the focus on women revolves around their femininity, beauty, hair, looks, age, marital status, relationships, children etc.

More so, women are also unfairly compared to male athletes.

It was clearly evident right from the start that the Rio 2016 Olympic commentators were looking to own the podium and were desperately competing for the honor of providing the most sexist news coverage.

Here are some of the more glaring sexist incidents from Rio 2016:

i) When Al Trautwig Reported that Sanne Wevers was Scribbling “dear diary” Entries in her Diary.

After gold medal winning Dutch gymnast Sanne Wevers completed her impeccable balance beam routine, for which she was awarded her first gold medal, she immediately went to her notebook and started tallying the number of points she knew she had earned.

Sports Comentator Al Trautwig obviously having nothing of significant value to contribute at the moment took it upon himself to assume out aloud that the 24-year-old athlete was writing a touchy, feely “dear diary” entry.

When his female co-anchor properly corrected him that Wever was actually figuring out her score, Trautwig stubbornly responded, with egg all over his face, that he preferred to believe she was just doing what comes naturally to females by writing touchy, feely, feel good “dear diary” entries in her diary.

ii) When Olympic Medalist Corey Cogdell was Described by a Chicago Tribune Journalist as Someone’s “wife.”

Trap shooter Corey Cogdell squeezed out an impressive bronze medal at the sudden death shoot-off competition at the Olympics.

In her third Olympic games, it was her second bronze medal.

"You can't compare an Olympic shootoff to any other," she said in Rio. "The pressure is unlike anything.  You want it so bad.", she added.

Now there were many words the Chicago Tribune could have chosen to describe Cogdell’s success and victory.

But on Twitter, the paper unfortunately chose to go with a lame:  “Wife of a Bears’ lineman wins a bronze medal today in Rio Olympics."

And here's one of the deserved responses it got:

iii) When Adam Kreek Commented that Eugenie Bouchard was Less of an Athlete and Not a True Competitor Because she Loved Taking Selfies.

Former Canadian rower turned commentator Adam Kreek drew negative attention and criticism to himself for suggesting that Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard had lost her match to German Angelique Kerber because her social media, Instagram account was keeping her too busy.

“I look at her posts on social media and I see she’s posting pictures of herself; she’s holding up the toothpaste; she’s trying out different hairstyles,” he unfairly and harshly criticised her on CBC.

“Maybe she wants something different than to be a competitor.”, he continued on.

Kreek was immediately taken to task and called out by fellow Canadian athlete Adam Van Koeverden (and others) for his stupid, brain dead comments.  He stated,

“I don’t think Adam is an expert on tennis.  I’m certainly not.  So I initially questioned why he was commenting on Eugenie’s game at all but at around the one-minute mark, I realized it wasn’t a lesson in tennis Adam needs, it’s a lesson in feminism.”

Van Koeverden continued, “He even did a girlish impression of her ‘trying out different hairstyles’, seemingly as evidence that she isn’t focused on winning or that having an interest in fashion, beauty or anything else might detract from one’s performance.

Since when is having a pastime a bad distraction?”

I wonder if Kreek would say the same of Ryan “lying, falsely reporting a crime” Lochte’s over the top, “look at me, look at me”, fancy, stylish, versatile hairdos?

iv) When Hungarian Olympic & World Champion Swimmer Katinka Hosszu’s Gold Medal Win was Credited to ... of all People her Husband

Katinka Hosszu

27 year old Katinka Hosszú is the world record holder in the 100 m individual medley, 200 m individual medley (long course and short course), 400 m individual medley (long course and short course), 100 m backstroke (short course) and 200 m backstroke (short course).

She is the first swimmer to hold world records in all five individual medley events at the same time.

She holds two-thirds of the Hungarian national records and she was named FINA Swimmer of the Year in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

She also competed at four Summer Olympics: 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

She is one of the most versatile swimmers in the world and was nicknamed the "Iron Lady", which she has since turned into a fast growing International brand.

She is the first race-prize dollar millionaire in swimming history.

After Hosszu won Gold while breaking a world record in the 400-meter individual swimming medley, NBC’s cameras put the spotlight on her husband and coach, Shane Tusup, whom sports commentator Dan Hicks later declared “the man responsible” for Hosszu’s winning the 2016 Olympic Gold medal.

Twitter immediately exploded with outrage.

v) When Katie Ledecky Set a New World Record and Won Gold, Yet Somehow Played Second Fiddle to Michael Phelps's Silver and Got a Smaller Headline

Phelps Ladecky Headline

19 year old Katie Ledecky broke her own world record in the 800-meter freestyle while winning the gold medal.

That very same day, Michael Phelps just happened to tie for a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly.

But people are asking, “How come Phelps got the bigger headline in the next morning’s paper?”

By consciously choosing to put the news of Ledecky’s 1st place major record in much smaller font, smaller headlines and basically a byline to Phelps 2nd place silver medal, the Bryan-College Station Eagle newspaper made it seem like even the most historic achievements of a woman are less important than a runner up performance from a man.

What made all of this even more astounding was that not only did Ledecky set a new world record in the woman’s 800 meter freestyle but she also became the first woman to win in the 200, 400 and 800 meter freestyle races since Debbie Meyer in 1968.

vi) When Simone Biles, the Very Greatest Gymnast of Our Times, Continually Keeps Getting Compared to Male Athletes ... Who are Not Even Gymnasts!

Simone Biles

Having won a combined total of nineteen Olympic and World Championship medals, Simone Biles is the most decorated American gymnast.

With four Olympic gold medals, Biles set an American record for most gold medals in women’s gymnastics at a single Games.

Biles is a three-time world all-around champion (2013–15), three-time world floor champion (2013–15), two-time world balance beam champion (2014, 2015), four-time United States national all-around champion (2013–16).

She is a member of the gold medal-winning American teams at the 2014 and 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships and is the 2016 Olympic individual all-around, vault and floor gold medalist.

She was also part of the gold medal-winning team dubbed the "Final Five" at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s been such a long time that Simone Biles has been routinely and repeatedly called the Michael Jordan of gymnastics,” and the “next Michael Phelps.”

So understandably, after winning the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics, individual all-around, Biles finally decided to once and for all put an end to it.

She emphatically stated,

“I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps.”

The 19-year-old teen prodigy continued,

“I’m the first Simone Biles.”

Waytago Simone.  Good for you!

vii) When a Reporter Gushed Praise on Andy Murray for Achieving Something Serena and Venus Williams Accomplished Years Ago

Andy Murray John Inverdale interview

Serena Williams:  Her total of 23 Grand Slam singles titles marks the record for the most Major wins by a tennis player in the Open Era.

She has also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles with her sister Venus and the pair are unbeaten in Grand Slam doubles finals.

Venus Williams:  Her seven Grand Slam singles titles ties her twelfth on the all-time list, more than any other active female player except sister Serena.

She has also won fourteen Grand Slam doubles titles and two mixed doubles titles.

Venus Williams has won four Olympic gold medals, one in singles and three in women's doubles, along with a silver medal in mixed doubles.

She and Serena have won more Olympic gold medals than any other tennis player, male or female.

Upon Andy Murray winning his second singles tennis gold medal of the Olympics, British reporter John Inverdale in his infinite wisdom, verbally applauded him for being the “first person ever to win two Olympic tennis gold medals.”

Murray quickly corrected him that he may be the first tennis player to win two singles tennis gold medals at The Games but that the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus “have won about four each.”

Sadly, this wasn’t the first time the Williams sisters have been cheated of the recognition they so justly deserve by not having their truly amazing sporting achievements duly recognized.
