16 Invaluable Life Lessons​ to Help You Achieve Your Dreams and Goals

Wanting to be successful is ingrained in all of us.  It's human nature.  We are all born with the "success gene".  It's a part of each one of us's DNA.  We all have dreams and goals in life.  It's normal for everyone to want to better themselves and to achieve their dreams and goals.  It keeps us moving forward, helps us to fulfill our purpose in life and helps us to lead happier lives ...

Some people achieve their dreams and goals in life, while others don't.  Some reach them faster at a young age, while others struggle with failure and achieve theirs much later in life.  And then there are some that sadly and regretably, don't achieve them at all.      ​

I would like to share with you 16 invaluable life lessons that helped me to pursue and achieve one of my dreams and goals.  It was starting this blog.  The following 16 things helped me tremendously and I'm confident that they can also help you to achieve your dreams and goals in life. 

Prior to starting this blog I had a lot of nagging self-doubts & lacked the self-confidence and belief in myself that I could build a successful blog.   Some invaluable lessons that I had learned in the past were reinforced along this year long journey.  

These are very basic, universal life lessons that apply to everyone experiencing challenges in their life.  If you follow them, there will be nothing in this world that can stop you from achieving your dreams and goals.  At least that's what they did for me.

So without wasting time, here they are.​

1) You Have to Know What You Want Out of Life

If you don’t know what you want out of life, how can you attain it?  You have to know what your purpose is in life and what you want out of life.  It is the key to life.  It is your driving force, your compass, your True North in life.  It is what drives, motivates and energizes you.  It is what wakes you up in the morning and keeps you going, moving forward and onward.

2) Just How Badly do You Want it?

You have to want something badly enough to do it.  If the real want, desire and hunger is not there, you will be less likely to do it.  You need that burning desire which comes from deep down inside within you.  You’ll know how badly you’ll want it when you feel that it is something you just have to do.

3) Rely on Yourself

Everything starts with you.  Never wait, rely and depend on anyone else for anything. If you do you could be waiting a long time.  You could be setting yourself up for major disappointment because they may not always come through for you.  You have to believe in yourself and have the self-confidence to start something and see it through.  Remember, it all starts with you.

4) Take Control of Your Life

It’s important to take charge of your life and to take control of your life. Resolve and eliminate any outstanding nagging issues or demons that are holding you back from moving forward.  When you resolve your outstanding issues, you will have a more clear and open mind to start fresh with and move on to bigger and better things in life ... like your purpose in life.

5) Always Think Positive

Thinking in a negative way will only make you focus on your problems.  You will begin to doubt and second guess yourself.  It will erode the belief in yourself and your self-confidence.  It will hold you back from moving forward and achieving great things in life.

When you start thinking positive amazing things will start to happen.  A whole new world will open up to you.  You will start to see more opportunities.  You will become more creative.  It will be easier to find solutions to your challenges and problems.  You will become a happier person, will achieve more and experience more success in your life.

6) Set Your Goals

Without goals you’ll go nowhere in life.  Have goals and set your goals. Short, medium and long term goals.  Ensure that they are SMART goals meaning that they are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.  Equally important is to set a time line to achieve your goals.  Don’t let them be open-ended or they’ll become dreams not goals.  Review your progress regularly to achieving your goals.

7) Have a Plan

Always have a plan.  Without a well thought out, well developed, structured, strategic plan you will waste your time, wander aimlessly and meander through life.  A good, solid plan will help you focus and keep you on track to achieving your goals and achieving more in life.  Be open minded and flexible enough to revise, alter, tweak and change your plan as things change with time.

8) Become Disciplined

Self-discipline is key.  Having the ability to do things when you don’t feel like doing them is one of the most important things in life.  A lot of the time we get lazy, procrastinate and we don’t feel like doing things that we need to do in order to get ahead and move forward in life.  When you’re self-disciplined you will push yourself, become more productive and accomplish a great deal more.

9) Develop Good Habits and Routines

The importance of developing good habits and routines is right up there with being self-disciplined.  These three things are so, so, so important, they can literally make or break the life you have and that you lead.  They have a tremendous impact on how successful and happy you will be in life and what you can accomplish.

10) Be Committed and Obsessed

In order to build and achieve anything in life you need to be fully committed to it. You have to put in the required time, energies and make the necessary sacrifices when required.  Your desire, wanting, hunger and focus needs to be so strong that it turns into an obsession.

When you are obsessed over something, that something becomes all consuming.  It literally takes over your life.  You will be living, eating, breathing and sleeping that something all of the time.  Being obsessed on what you want out of life is a good thing.

11) Do Everything with Enthusiasm

Do everything you do with great enthusiasm.  When you have great enthusiasm and excitement you will direct all of your positive energies and creativity into making it a success.  Your level of enthusiasm will help determine your mood.  When you are in a positive frame of mind and in a good mood, you’ll be more productive and accomplish a lot more.

12) Take Massive Action

Don’t wait to start today or tomorrow.  Start yesterday.  Don’t wait.   Just go ahead and do it.  Sure it’s good to think things through and plan ... but always remember, analysis is paralysis.  Never over think things.  Don’t over plan.  Don’t wait for everything to be perfect and just right before you start because it never will.

If you don’t start and take action, remember it’s just a dream, not a goal.  In fact, don’t just take action.  Go all out, be all in and take a massive amount of action for the greatest results.  You won’t regret it.

13) Never Give Up

Never ever give up.  Keep at it.  Stick to it.  Never say die.  Always give it your best effort.  You never know, just when you’re about to give up you could be right around the corner from success.  Remember, sometimes in life you need to struggle and experience failure before you achieve success.  

You will always have The Law of Averages on your side.  With persistence, determination and commitment it is bound to kick in.  So be persistent, don’t give up and don’t think negative.  Keep marching onward and forward and you will succeed.

14) Harness the Power of Momentum

When you’re working and start getting things done, making some progress, and accomplishing your goals ... don’t stop, keep on going and working. Now is not the time to stop and relax and take a break.  Gather some momentum under your belt, build up some more steam and forge straight ahead. Leverage the power of momentum to your advantage.  Once you’ve done that then settle into a comfortable and proactive rhythm and ride that wave till it comes to an end.  Rinse and repeat.

15) Manage Your Time

It’s so easy to get side tracked with extraneous stuff and “waste” your time in non-productive pursuits.  There are numerous, never ending, constant daily distractions that can pull you away from your work.

The biggest time wasters are spending time on Social Media, getting lost in the Black Hole of the internet by endlessly bouncing around from website to website and taking breaks to watch TV and play video games etc.  Manage and use your time effectively and you’ll be productive and get more things done which will inevitably lead to a successful outcome.

16) Move Outside of Your Comfort Zone

It’s important in life to stretch yourself and move outside of your comfort zone.  It will challenge you, help you adapt and deal with change, expand your life experiences and ultimately will help you to grow as a person.  You will become a more resourceful person and expand your learning, life skills and self-knowledge, making you a more well rounded individual.

These basic principles have helped me tremendously throughout my life in whatever I do.  They helped me to get this blog up and running and will continue to help me to promote, market and grow this blog and community. It’s presently a young blog with a few posts right now but my goal is to make it your go to blog from here on in.
